In between cooled lava flows, is the Kona Residence, this residence is the quintessential island house. The house id divided into two sleeping pods, with common areas, media, master suite and main living space, with a central axis that helps the house stay organised.
As well as being a pleasure to look at, the house is also environmentally friendly with 2 separate arrays of roof mounted photovoltaic panels to offset the residence’s energy usage, the choice of darker lava stone helps to heat the pool water via solar radiation, rain water collection and a redirection to 3 dry wells help replenish the aquifer that have been installed throughout the property.
The house is built with reclaimed teak timber from older barns and train tracks, together with stacked and cut lava rock, two materials that are historically embedded in Hawaiian tradition
