The Vitra Factory Design

Vitra, a Swiss furniture brand, has continued a 25 year strategy of commissioning internationally renowned contemporary architects like Sanaa to design their factory. Sanaa is a Basel-based Japanese architecture firm that consists of Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa.

The design idea applied by Sanaa was to build an industrial facility that, compared to the 12,000 square metres of the old structure, provided 20,000 sqm of working space.

The space is divided into 4 working areas that are able to work independently from each other. The building on the whole has a circular footprint which makes sure that the delivery and loading of goods in different locations, optimizes, reduces and simplifies internal traffic.
