Justin Bieber seems to be trawling the Juno nominations for singers to sign up for the record label “School Boy”. He has just signed fellow Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen to the record label, stating that he fell in love with her sound, the first time he heard her sing. Carly Rae, a former Canadian Idols singer has a hit single called “Call Me Maybe” and was a guest on Much Music’s New Music Live when Justin Bieber sent the video describing the first time he had heard her sing.

As a child of the eighties, I remember Whitney Houston as the beautiful, thin, “I wanna dance with somebody” singerthat made us all dance in our living rooms. After numerous failed comebacks, and a battle with drugs and alcohol, her career had become spotty and unreliable. It had become characterised by cancelled performances and reports of drug abuse and rehab admissions. A definite downturn from the sparkling young lady that was discovered at a performance in New York.

You might remember Die Antwoord from a couple of years ago when they released “Enter the Ninja“, the Zef trio are back, producing and releasing under their own record label, Zef Recordz. In their new single, “I Fink You Freeky” Ninja, DJ Hi-Tek and Yolandi Vi$$er produce fresher beats and weirder visuals. The video itself is very simple, showing all of the arrogance and skills that got them their international record deal in the first place.
Don’t plan on being too calm after watching the video, you will either need to wash your eyeballs with soap or be tapping your feet and searching Wikipedia for more of the Zef sound of Die Antwoord.

The second album is out today for singer Lana Del Rey and aptly named Born To Die. It only seems like yesterday that she arrived on the music scene, actually I think it was, she has come from nowhere to being everywhere.
As for the new album, it’s getting mixed reviews, opinions are divided. The music on the album comes across as somewhat gloomy but her distinctive voice is intriguingly hypnotically sad but I mean this as a positive and not a negative observation.

Jean-Paul Gaultier went wild child by using Amy Winehouse as his muse for his Spring/ Summer fashion show. Models were clad in Amy’s signature mashup of soft floaty fabrics paired with the hard lines of a bustier, giant hair and even cigarettes.
Ever since her untimely death last year at the age of 27, Amy Winehouse has been mourned by friends, family and fans alike, and it looks like Jean-Paul wanted to bring one last memory of the voice from Camden to light. A couple of Amy’s hit tracks were playing as models strutted down the catwalk.
