Really Simple Cardboard Houses

A lovely way to keep your kids’ imaginations going wild is to make these really simple cardboard houses from discarded boxes.

They are bright enough to keep the kids interested while being plain enough so that they can imagine their own details and change them at will.

*The tutorial from Loft in Soho details exactly how you can make these cardboard houses yourself, which I found via Handmade Charlotte

Fabulous Stencilled Wallpaper

I mentioned the other day that I found a really neat post by the “Jones Design Company” about how to change your boring light covers. Well today I want to recommend another brilliant post by them, a post on how to use a stencil on cheap plain wallpaper and give yourself an amazing finish that looks very much like an expensive wall covering.

Again the tutorial is extremely easy to follow but I will say you are going to need a lot of time and patience to work on it, although I’m sure on completion, the project will definetly be worth the effort put in.

* If you like to try this project yourself, the full tutorial can be found on the Jones Design Company blog

Bring A Boring Light Switch To Life

There is one thing about your standard white light Switch, the look can be quite boring. You could of course spend a little cash and get one with a bit of character but if you have a lot of switches, this could end up costing you quite a bit of money.

So what are the alternatives? Well why not pimp the cover yourself! This is exactly what the simple tutorial from “The Jones Design Company” achieves.

To follow the simple instructions, you can follow them step by step on the The Jones Design Company blog

T-Shirt Bracelets

Bracelets seem to be all the range at the moment, from adults to young teens and so this got me thinking of a way that I could make them for myself. So after searching the internet for a bit I came across this simple tutorial on the ” Henry Happened” blog.

What caught my attention really, was the bracelets could be made from old T-Shirts you already have lying about your home.

Now I just need to dig through the cupboards looking for all those vibrant shirts that were destined for the charity bin.

This simple tutorial can be found on the Henry Happened website by the lovely mommy blogger Stephanie

Spangled Flamingos

If you are looking for a great little project when the kids are on vacation this summer, look no further than these Rhinestone Flamingos from Leah from Zombies Wearing Helmets.

They are so easy,  you could even probably use the method to cover other things in your garden with the rhinestones, like garden gnomes etc, think of all the sparkly garden gnomes just waiting for a makeover.

You can find exactly how to make your own sparkly flamingos on Leah’s Zombies Wearing Helmets

Personalized Cell Phone Covers

I had a similar problem to Heather at Decor-ganize Crafts, we both can’t find fancy embellished covers for our phone that suit our budgets and our taste. Heather has a solution though, find a clear cell phone case at a reasonable price and decorate that.

And that is what she did with the clear cases she got from the dollar store.

Summertime Sun Catchers

As we shift past the longest day of the year, the sunlight gets really special. Maybe its the change in the angle or the fact that we are on the downhill slope to winter, but the shorter days deserve celebrating.

Now you can get your kids involved in celebrating precious sunlight, by making these sun catchers from melted beads.

I found the imags from Blueparkart on Craftsy, but the idea has it’s own thread in the community board

Handwoven Cable Baskets

Evdoxia Stafylaraki made these recycled cable baskets and sent them into Recyclart. The amount of forethought that would have had to go into making these baskets is amazing to me.

I know of South African baskets made with discarded telephone wire, but this is the first time I have seen cable used to make a such a loosely woven basket.

More images of the basket can be seen on Recyclart and on Exdosia Art

Make Your Own Clay Pots

Have you ever thought about making your own handmade clay pots? Probably not I guess, looks a bit complicated perhaps, but apparently it’s not.

Liz Stanley from New York had a post on her website from Claire who has her own blog called “Fellow Fellow”. It shows in very simple detail the process of how we can make  these little dainty pots ourselves.

Claire of FellowFellow contributed her post via Say Yes To Hoboken where you can find the instructions

Denims to Pot Holders

I have had several denim jeans give out on me, I kneel down and a giant hole appears in my knee or I walk past a door and the handle reaches out and grabs a belt loop!

So what do I do with these torn denim jeans that are too holy to wear but not bad enough to throw out? If you follow Lise Farynowski‘s advice, you make pot holders out of them.
