Alien Abduction Lamp DIY

Alien 2 Here’s a project that combines a few of my favourite things, DIY, thrift or hardware store finds, and pure kitsch. Everybody loves those alien movies from more innocent times, like Steven King’s “The Tommyknockers”,The Puppet Masters”, “Invaders From Mars”, “The Angry Red Planet”… Or even alien adbuction horror stories told around the campfire.

If you have a husband/ boyfriend/ son that loves old alien movies and has a birthday coming up (heck Christmas is here in like 4 months time) you have got to get started on this. The items you need, left, are all available either in your cupboard right now or at the hardware store/ thrift store for next to nothing. Just make sure that bowls you use aren’t on your Mother in Laws heirloom list…then you’re on your own. I got this tutorial from Heather’s entry into the Five Dollar Day Challenge thrown out by Lindsey from Living with Lindsey in 2009. But if you really don’t have the time or inclination to make this, you can buy them here.

What you need are:

  • Large-lipped bowl, $1
  • Smaller bowl, $.25 (marked down)
  • Acrylic drinking glass, $1
  • Touch light, $1
  • Package of farm animals, $1
  • 3 Aliens Heather happened to find in the coin-op machines on the way out, $.75

For the instructions, please see Heather’s Blog, Dollar Store Crafts or Lindsey’s Blog, Living with Lindsay and you should end up with this:
