Up in Northern Europe felt footwear (valenki) have been used for centuries as lightweight, breathable, warm and soft protection for your feet. The skill of felting wool fibres was brought from Russia to Finland and since 1921, the Lahtinen family’s Lahtiset Factory, in the Jämsä region, has represented a long tradition of carefully made felted boots and slippers. Even though production has expanded over the years to thousands of boots, each shoe is still made carefully, step by step, by hand as most of the working stages can not be carried out by modern machinery.
The boots are made from pure lambs’ wool which makes no impact on the environment. The Lahtiset boots and slipper are available from the Lahtiset online shop as well as through Saass website and the Manufactum online shop.
