In an effort inspired by the Japanese inrō, Edo-Period accessory, Miniwiz has designed a iPhone case that is made entirely from trash. The inrō were small Japanese accessories used to carry important items easily and without a lot of bags & pockets and were often shaped in such a way as to provide tactile stress relief. That is what the ripples on the RE-Case do, they allow the case to nestle comfortably in the user’s hand as well as enable the case to accommodate hidden items within it’s shape. The RE-Case is made from a material that comprises of the usually discarded agricultural waste from rice farming and recycled plastic bottles. The agricultural waste is added to used thermoplastics to form a new group of materials called POLLOBER. One of the greatest drawbacks of recycling used plastic bottles is that it loses it’s mechanical strength, this is counteracted by the reprocessed rice husks, which make the end product highly durable, all while maintaining very low CO2 emissions.
