Low Tech Designer Tea Steeper

The Tea Time Steeper in action.

I have a confession to make, I love tea, strong black tea (no messing around with Rooibos or herbals) with milk, no sugar and a comfortable spot in the sun and I am a happy camper. I also love designer things, clean lines and practicality that makes my heart beat faster. But this next product combines both my loves, tea and design. The Tea-Time Tea Steeper designed by Pengtao Yu is, in a word, gorgeous; it consists of three parts that separate so that you can place the water and tea leaves in one section, the timer is in the middle and the other section where the drinkable tea ends up after it’s steeped. Unfortunately this steeper is only conceptual at the moment.

Pour the hot water and tea leaves into one section.

Set the timer to the strength of the tea you want.

Just like an hour glass, turn the Tea Steeper over to begin the process

Watch the tea begin to steep before your eyes.

The steeped tea makes it's way through the middle section into the bottom.

Remove the section with the used tea leaves and enjoy your ready cup of tea.

The Tea Time Steeper was entered into the 2011 Spark Awards, Concept Category.
