I thought I would show you a few of the gorgeous dresses worn on the Cannes 2011 red carpet or to the photo calls. Salma Hayek wore this gorgeous grey Gucci gown on day 1 of the Cannes 2011 Film Festival.

Actress Fan Bing Bing wore this gorgeous hybrid of a gown, sort of a cross between a traditional oriental dress and a delightfully modern strapless number. The gown was designed by her stylist Chris Bu Kewen.

Gon Li impressed in this deep purple Roberto Cavalli gown, while Aishwarya Rai’s dress had an edge that was echoed in her hair style. Julie Henderson was also dressed in Roberto Cavalli, a beaded blue one shouldered dress that fit her superbly.

Themba Mngomezulu was introduced to fashion by a mother that sold second hand clothes to support the family. So when he grew up, there was a natural gravitation to the fashion industry. Themba began making clothes for himself and for friends, before starting his own fashion brand in 2002, Darkie Clothing.

Darkie Clothing is African inspired clothing with a distinctive location edge, street fashion with couture overtures, if you will. The design headquarters of Darkie Clothing is located in Cape Town’s Municipality of Woodstock, where vintage inspired clothing is designed, made and distributed from.

In the 10 years that Darkie Clothing has been designing clothing, Themba has been featured in shows around the world, from Amsterdam to the USA, spreading his message of African beauty and style to the world.

The Portland Press is a lid and cozy that turns your mason jar into a sustainable French Press. Bucket, started a Crowd Supply campaign to fund the production of The Portland Press and wants to produce sustainable products, locally made and long lasting. All of the materials used in the Portland Press are from within the Portland region.

The cozies are felted Oregon wool from Puddleduck Farm, Creekside Fiber Mill, and Spooltown. The metal mechanical workings within were also made locally at the Northwest Spring Manufacturing, Oregon Screw Machine Products. The wooden lid is made by B&L Wood Creations. Assembly is handled by Tualatin Valley Workshop.

All Portland Presses are backed by a lifetime warranty, so if any part fails or breaks, Bucket will replace it. Mason jars were chosen for their replace-ability and all the parts for the Portland Press will fit standard Mason jar sizes.

The Cinderela Loft in Sao Paolo was designed by Brazilian architect João Artacho Jurado in 1956. The building is located on Rua Maranhão in Higienópolis. The caretaker’s apartment was for sale, 70m2 of ground floor apartment divided into living room, a pair of small bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen with just 2 windows.

Marina Acayaba and Juan Pablo Rosenberg, founder of AR Arquitetos, turned the apartment into a charming eclectic, contemporary loft with rooms bathed in natural light. They managed to enlarge the kitchen window into a wall of glass and a skylight over the court yard of the building.

During the first inspection of the apartment, Juan Pablo Rosenberg looked up from the front door that opens into the lobby of the building and noticed a 4 meter difference in heights. At that moment he knew he had to purchase and renovate the apartment.

Planet money is a joint venture between the NPR and This American Life, to explain the American economy to its people. Every t-shirt in the world is the result of a global journey, with Planet Money’s t-shirts, they actually tell you where their t-shirts have been. You can meet the people that grew the cotton to make the fabric, the factory workers that worked on the spinners that made the fabric.

The US economy is a system that affects everyone in the country, but not a lot of people understand. A group of mixed media journalists decided to make the economy something fun to discuss. So they developed t-shirts that help explain the economy and make it fun to find out about.

The t-shirts also have a cool little code that you can scan with your smart phone which will bring up an interactive website with all the pictures of the people that worked on and touched your t-shirt. From the factories in Bangladesh and Colombia to the complicated international regulations that govern the t-shirt trade in the US.

Vitra, a Swiss furniture brand, has continued a 25 year strategy of commissioning internationally renowned contemporary architects like Sanaa to design their factory. Sanaa is a Basel-based Japanese architecture firm that consists of Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa.

The design idea applied by Sanaa was to build an industrial facility that, compared to the 12,000 square metres of the old structure, provided 20,000 sqm of working space.

The space is divided into 4 working areas that are able to work independently from each other. The building on the whole has a circular footprint which makes sure that the delivery and loading of goods in different locations, optimizes, reduces and simplifies internal traffic.

Stephen Shaheen is an amazing artist!. One of his creations, named American Socket, features miniature human sculptures with working headlights.

These miniature Zombie like humans are a wonderful little piece of art that are sure to get the conversation going in any home. There are quite a few different poses that you can choose from or if you really want to create a work of art you can add more than one sculpture to create an interconnected human headlight chain.

The sculptures seem to fall about, stumble and struggle to get themselves to the sockets. Looking at them on the ground they seem to possess the same stupid qualities that are often associated with Zombies, minus the flesh eating of course.

The sculpture all seem to have their own problems in trying to get connected. One seems to blindly stumble on it’s knees with it’s hand outstretched, while another looks like it desperately trying to disconnect it’s self from a socket.

These wonderful human headlights would look amazing placed on stairs, giving the impression that they want to get upstairs. Imaging instead of of a boring old hanging light, you have what looks like a person hanging from the ceiling, almost as if his slipped off the side of a mountain.

These tiny little human headlights are a fun alternative to night lights or mood lighting, who wouldn’t want a creepy rusty looking person light your way?
