Alexander  McQueen’s innovative fashion design was brought to the fore when his design house designed The Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress on the 29th April 2011. He has been hailed as such an icon that he is getting his own exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York city. Over his 19 year career, Alexander McQueen has been named a visionary, an icon and an artist. His inspirations are drawn from the exaggerated silhouettes of the 1860s, 1880s, 1890s and the 1950s but his technical ingenuity is what held him apart from the crowd.

The Metropolitan Museum puts on a show – images

To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, the Museum’s Costume Institute Benefit took place on Monday, May 2, 2011. The evening’s Honorary Chairs are François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek. The Co-Chairs are Colin Firth, Stella McCartney, and Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue.

This fund-raising event is The Costume Institute’s main source of annual funding for exhibitions, acquisitions, and capital improvements.

Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dresses

Not only did Kate Middleton have one of the best kept secrets for a wedding dress, designed by one of the most fashionable fashion houses, but she also managed to nab herself a second equally talked about ensemble. While the first dress was fit for a Princess, beautiful designed by creative director Sarah Burton of the fashion house Alexander McQueen, with elegant lace sleeves, beautifully simple & in keeping with the tradition that all brides cover their shoulders, the second dress, also an Alexander McQueen, was simple, young & fresh & definitely made for a party!

It’s over…bar the shouting

Well it seems to be all over, the wedding of the year, so far, has come and gone and all that’s left is for the streamers and flags to be swept up off the street. But for two people, their journey has just begun, I like to think of a wedding as just the beginning.

And what better way to begin your life than to remember the best parts of your day. So I have gleaned a few of my favourite shots of Prince William and Kate’s big day.
