Roasted Butternut Squash Soup

If squashes and pumpkins are coming into season in your area, a great way to get them into your diet is to make soups. Delicious, heartwarming soups, thick and creamy accompanied by yeasty bread and homemade butter.

My favourite so far is this roasted butternut squash soup from A Sweet Spoonful. It is served with a dollop of cilantro and walnut pesto.

* A Sweet Spoonful‘s recipe would be great with a chunk of bread or just on its own, eaten while sitting in front of a crackling fire or a window looking onto falling snow

Whipped Key Lime Pie

Autumn is approaching and limes are coming into season real soon, of course with micro climates, limes can be grown throughout the year, but if you are lucky enough to have a Key Lime tree, how will you deal with your bounty?

I suggest you start off with BHG‘s classic whipped Key Lime Pie. With it’s crumbly graham cracker crust and fluffy light filling, it’s the perfect way to get your Vitamin C levels up before winter and the cold season get to you.

Anticipate Autumn With A Praline Pumpkin Cake

Despite the heat that is no doubt surrounding you at the moment, it’s never too late to start thinking about what you are going to start making to celebrate the harvest, Autumn.

*This Pumpkin Praline cake from Pinch My Salt would be the perfect way to celebrate the harvest, or anything else that needs celebrating.

Glittery Halloween Pumpkins

Forward thinking individuals such as yourselves are probably already thinking about how to decorate for Halloween and how to be different from the typical department store plastic decorations everyone else has.

*Here’s an idea, make your own Glittery Pumpkins. Heather from Chickabug blog has a great tutorial that you can use to make you pumpkins glitter like never before.

Leaf Art by Lorenzo Duran

Leaf cutouts12

As we start the slippery slope down into Autumn, I thought I would share these lovely pieces of arty leaf cut outs from Lorenzo Duran. If you spot a design that you absolutely love, Lorenzo is more than willing to make another, but as with all handmade art, each and every leaf is totally unique, both before he does the cut outs and after.

Lorenzo washes and dries each leaf he finds, then he carefully cuts away segments in a technique akin to those of traditional spanish picado, chinese jianzhi, german scherenschnitte, or swiss papercutting.
