Plankton Lock Dinner Table

The “Lock” dinner table by J.P.Meulendijks comprises of interlocking bamboo layers. These layers are flexible, very strong and highly sustainable, all unique natural characteristics of bamboo as a building material.

The bamboo layers curve through and around each other, locking each other in place and creating a different look from every angle. The table is available with a glass top, or with a stained or natural bamboo top.

Ibuku Designs Bamboo Living Spaces

As we move further and further from nature, I have found that there is an increase in companies providing a way to get back to nature. Ibuku is one of those companies, they design buildings, living spaces and furniture that are fully integrated with the natural world.

Ibuku is an award-winning architectural design company that have developed the Green School and are currently working on the Green Village in Bali, Indonesia.

Solar Egg House

When architecture graduate, Dai Haifei, finished his studies and faced getting an apartment in Beijing he found that he couldn’t afford the astronomical rent demanded by apartment buildings.

So he took his qualifications and decided to design and build with a little help from his friends his own house.

More Bamboo Bowls

You might remember the dinner plates we featured last year made from leaves and bamboo. Well I found another company that makes bowls, bake-ware, servers and utensils, among other things from bamboo. The difference this time is Core Bamboo, is part of Core Home, a company that makes some brightly coloured and beautifully crafted environmentally friendly housewares

Modern Ceramic Steamer Set

This steamer from Office for Product Design, is the modern take on the traditional Chinese bamboo steamer. It has a fireproof ceramic bowl which prevents it from ever warping when the temperature changes. The ceramic also doesn’t take on the smells from strong smelling foods. The steamer set also has a perforated terracotta plate which absorbs excess moisture and prevents the steamed food from becoming too soggy.

Pixelated Table

This table from Studio Intussen is made up of bamboo sticks that can be moved so that cavities where items can be place are formed. That’s why its called Pixel table, cos the individual sticks look like pixels from a computer screen.

Modern Stylish Bamboo Knife Boxes

 

Mikoto is a range of bamboo knife blocks, lacquered to a high glossy finish on the outside. In true Asian sensibility, the bamboo knife boxes are filled with skewers that not only allows the user to insert as many or as few knives as will fit, but also to insert the knives is any formation desired. They allow free-form storage that is easily customised to the needs of the kitchen.

Connect, Create and Capture With Bamboo

With daily life being infiltrated more and more by technology and computers, it only stands to reason that people would start to find more activities that technology could be apart of, like art and sketching. That is the purpose of the Wacom’s Bamboo range of digital tablets. They aim to give working on your desktop, laptop, iPad and smart phone a more organic feel, where the stylus replaces the fingers to make movements finer. Wacom has three different tablets, Bamboo Capture, Bamboo Connect and Bamboo Create, each specializing in its own area. Capture and Create can be used to edit digital pictures, paint and draw and Connect can be used to mark up documents, sketch and annotate.

Orca Speakers With A Wood Grain Finish

The Orca Speakers were named after the Orca pods that roam the Puget Sound

The Orca speakers are from Blumenstein Speaker company that operates out of Seattle, Washington. The speakers are made from a mixture of sustainable materials including banana plant fibre, Birch plywoodPlyboo Bamboo Plywood and Titebond III waterproof wood glue for long-term durability. The sound quality of the speakers is supposed to be phenomenal, without subwoofers they are perfect for listening to music in your cubicle without disturbing your neighbours. With the addition of a subwoofer or two, the bass reveals itself and they adjust to being surround sound speakers.
