Twisted Flaky Cinnamon Bread

Can you believe it’s already September?! The year seems to be flying by, although I always seem to say that at this time of year. It’s already time to start thinking about what to do for Christmas, what to serve, who’s coming over and the snacks and nibbles that are always around.

This year, I think I will make this gorgeous Twisted Flaky Cinnamon Bread.

*this recipe is from All Colours Of The World, making it should be a snap

Pita Bread Family Recipe

Aimee from Under The Highchair has been kind enough to share a recipe for pita bread which has been made in her family for generations. It is really simple to follow and you end up with lovely, yeasty pillows of puffed up bread to fill with tzatziki, grilled vegetables and meat. Yum, what a great summer lunch.

Hallah Handles

Hallah Handles

At the recent Holon Design week, a couple of young Israeli designers emerged as designers to watch in the future. One of them was Tal Zur, who confidently declared that she had no website while handing out handmade booklets of her work. Tal designed the Hallah Handles, a pair of silicone and ceramic handles on a string that gets wrapped around the Challah bread dough, then when the bread is baked, all you have to do is pull the handles and the bread is sliced neatly.

Package Food In A Glass Jar

There are so many different ways of packaging food these days that it’s hard to decide which one to choose, especially as favours or little gifts from your kitchen, but my favourite so far has to be in a jar. It’s practical, reusable, recyclable and best of all it looks great. So I thought I would show you a few ideas for putting all sorts of food in a jar, from cheesecakes, to cakes, to cup cakes. You can place or bake anything in a jar!

But putting food in a jar doesn’t have to be limited to desserts, I have seen salads, pies and bread being baked in glass jars and they look amazing as well. [Read more...]

Eco Friendly Pizza Oven Built With Cob

The beginnings of a cob pizza oven

As a hardcore fan of all kinds of bread and wood fired pizza, Ziggy (Brian Liloia), author of A Year of Mud the book and the blog, wanted to see if he could build a wood fired pizza oven with the same methods and materials he had used to build his first house, mud & cob. Cob is an ancient mixture of sand, clay, and straw, mixed by foot, and then applied by hand to form massive walls, used by various indigenous people to construct houses, and various other buildings before cement was used so widely. On his blog, and in his book, he details his experiences during his “Year of Mud” when he decided to go as completely off the grid as possible. Back to his pizza oven below

Message Toaster

toast_messenger

To avoid being late for work a lot of us get by on tea/ coffee and a slice of toast. Some of us have preferences as to whether the toast is toasted on both sides, some of us are picky as to the ratio of butter to toast surface area, we all have our little foibles regarding the perfect piece of toast. But I bet none of you readers has ever thought of putting a message on your piece of toast! That’s exactly what Sasha Tseng did. She wanted to make the toast the star attraction in the breakfast experience, and so she came up with the message toaster that burns a message onto the top of your toast.

Glide Toaster

I love toast. Yes you heard me correctly & I’ll say it again, I love toast. There is nothing better than a simple piece of toast. The beauty of toast is that you can have it just as it is, with hot melted butter or depending on how you’re feeling your toast can be as elaborate as you want. So doesn’t it stand to reason that your toaster should be as wonderful as the toast it makes?

I came across a toaster that looked, excuse my childish discription, well really cool. And the name is ever cooler. It’s called a Glide Toaster, & the name should give you a clue on how it works.
