Have you heard the official Olympic song? It’s by British alternative rock band Muse and it’s nothing like their previous work. I love Muse, but I think I will have to let the song grow on me and with how many times it will probably be played during the Olympics, I think it just might.
Yesterday marked the first anniversary of William and Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. And what a year it has been, the social climbing young lady that was such a wild card to the British public has shown herself to be cool, contained and able to handle the rigours of the life of a Royal. We found a couple of the highlights of the last year, all together now, awwwww!
British artist, Nick Sayers, makes all sorts of spheres from paper and plastic he has on hand. From estate agent’s signboards, to train tickets, playing cards and measuring tape. The sphere project started around 1992 when he was at Art College, where he would spend hours making sculptures out of plastic cups from the vending machines. He hates waste, so when he noticed the amount of resources being thrown away, he decided to try to do something about it. Of course once he started, he started seeing the potential in almost everything around him.
When I mention bow ties, you probably think of the guy on the left. Slightly older, weirdo with a smarmy grin on his face, trying very hard to convince you he isn’t after your money. But bow ties are all the rage nowadays, everyone from sports stars to hip hop mavens (an expert) are rocking the look, and making it look good.
David Beckham’s doing it, Kanye West is doing it, Pharrell is doing it…A couple of years ago, Pharrell was even designing his own luxury bow tie range! Bow ties are now available in various different colour-ways and fabrics, matching your pocket square or not, they are becoming fashion statements for the independent, fashionable man about town.
I’ve found a British company that will allow you to buy ready made bow ties or design your own, so if you have a wedding coming up or if you need party favours for fifty or so men Keltic Ties is the company to do it. They also do other men’s accessories like cuff links, regular ties, scarves, cummerbunds, blazers, waistcoats, handkerchiefs and tie clips.
