Yummy Individual Mug Cakes
Sometimes making a whole cake just takes way too long for my liking. Those are the days I’m craving something cake-like, but without the creaming, whisking, measuring drama that goes with serious baking.
Spicy Mini Bundt Cakes
I love a good spicy cake and I think these miniature brown sugar bundt cakes from Rachel‘s Elephantine would taste great with a tablespoon of seville orange marmalade in the bundt hole. Can’t wait to try them out myself.

Package Food In A Glass Jar
There are so many different ways of packaging food these days that it’s hard to decide which one to choose, especially as favours or little gifts from your kitchen, but my favourite so far has to be in a jar. It’s practical, reusable, recyclable and best of all it looks great. So I thought I would show you a few ideas for putting all sorts of food in a jar, from cheesecakes, to cakes, to cup cakes. You can place or bake anything in a jar!
But putting food in a jar doesn’t have to be limited to desserts, I have seen salads, pies and bread being baked in glass jars and they look amazing as well. [Read more...]

Tiered Container Gardening In The Desert
Surfing the web, I stumbled upon a great blog called Art & Appetite, run by Rylan, a sugar and cake artist of note. But I’m not here to talk about the gorgeous cakes, I’m here to talk about something Rylan did that you can do at home as well. Grow your own herbs and vegies. Rylan got a little advice on what she could grow from a friend, because she lives in Las Vegas (a desert climate), some odds and ends from the hardware store and her favourite plants and knocked up a lovely garden for herself.
We love container gardens here in Funchkins, and this would have to be one of my favourite, because it has a lot of the same plants I would plant myself. [Read more...]
Cupcakes That Soften The Hardest Heart
I think one can safely assume that we love cake here at Funchkins, Dark Chocolate plus Coconut equals Heaven, The Perfect White Cake and My Top Ten Cupcakes are all posts that give proof to this claim. So when I found these delightful little cupcakes, I almost swooned. They look like they have reached critical chocolate mass and are gonna march over to you to explode in your mouth. I found them on Instructables.com where you can find the recipe, if you don’t hear from me in a while, you know I have succumbed to a chocolate induced coma and will die a very, very happy person. Goodbye cruel world… [Read more...]
Charly’s Angelic Bakery – Cape Town
In the centre of Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world and overlooked by the famous Table Mountain sits Charly’s Bakery. Charly’s Bakery is a business started by a family because of their love of feeding people, it has moved around through the years, to finally end up on Canterbury street where they serve up tasty tarts, creepy cakes and cupcakes to die for. The family’s inspiring story is now a reality series on South African local television that follows Charly’s Cake Angels and their Oopa Loompas, as their staff have been nicknamed. A word of warning, their fare is supposed to be dangerously addictive, you might end up changing life plans just to be able to patronize this little piece of baking heaven in Cape Town.
