Jack The Hand Cast Speaker

Usually concrete is a material used in the construction of boring structures like parking lots or high-rise apartments, but An/Aesthetic Design has elevated concrete to audio art form with the Jack Speaker.

The Jack speaker is speaker that is simple and edgy with its use of hand cast concrete as a main material. The speaker is tapered to the rear and the concrete has a cut-out to accommodate a wooden cylinder to raise the front of the speaker and to reduce vibrations.

* At the moment, Jack is still in production, but you can pre-order your Jack concrete speaker for delivery in April 2013.

* Flaster is available through the Ivanka Concrete Design website, where you can download the Flaster catalog or read more on the designs on NOTCOT.org

But if you have the soul of an artist, you probably crave individuality, so why not make your own stepping stones. All it requires is a little time, concrete and some imagination.

Follow this tutorial from the Dig Deeper Newsletter and make your own pretty stepping stones

Lamps in Cement – Gayalux

The 5kg lamp looks like it's floating Made from a black gloss cement, and lit by a normal bulb. The Gayalux lamp was designed by Xiral Segard and looks like an alien eye ball or a way for our computers to spy on us, but inreality it is an exquisitely designed ball of concrete. Weighing just 5Kg and measuring 26 cm in diameter and 27cm in height, the ball is made from either plain concrete or a black concrete gloss. Made for indoor use only, the lamp takes a compact fluorescent bulb (23W, E27 – 220V, 50 – 60Hz) all for around €340.
