Smaller living spaces require new design concepts, here’s an interesting video from Resource Furniture that shows exactly what can be achieved with a little imagination. All the furniture they design serves a dual purpose, and can transform in a flash. Resource Furniture has realized that there is a market for compact furniture as well as a need for furniture that opens out.
The Torque Table is a table created by Nobu Miake, an American born designer who now lives in Japan. The Torque table was presented at the Design Soil stand, a university project that brings together the creations of students in the department of product design at the Kobe Design University.
When I first laid eyes on this image, I thought ok what’s so special about this picture, it’s just a canvas photo of a woman sitting on a chair that’s been printed on a canvas. But then I scrolled down and looked at the pictures from different angles.

After the destruction caused by the recent Hurricane Sandy on the residents and homes in New York City, Reclaim NYC was formed to turn the debris from this destructive storm into usable, functional furniture pieces that went on sale to benefit the Sandy victims.

Yuan Yuan is a Chinese designer that lives and works in Paris. Ever since she was a child, her dream has been to sleep and play in the clouds, and by creating The Cloud House, she has managed to make that dream come at least partly true.
The Cloud House was designed to come into contact with the body. It can be used as a rocking chair, a chair-bed and an armchair and is made from solid wood and plywood.

Instead of having a bed as simply a place to sleep, Alain Gilles has elevated the simple bed to a coordinated modular piece with add-on components that allow the user to adjust and personalize the bed to their requirements.
There is an expandable headboard, bedside table, drawer-like “pocket table”, reposition able lamp and a bench allowing for an infinite number of re-configurations. These various options can be used to create a separate bathroom area, a mini-office or a cozy reading nook with relative ease.
