Scandinavian Lakeside Getaway

This gorgeous little green house was converted into a lakeside getaway by architect Ville Hare and designer Linda Bergroth. It accommodates up to 2 people by night and serves as a retreat with the most amazing views during the day. Besides there being no bathroom or kitchen facilities, I see no problem with waking as soon as the sun rises and watching the animals come out to the water for their early morning drink.

Inspirational Chilean Muller House

The Muller House in Chile was designed by TIDY Architects and was inspired by the Pavilion of Mies Van der Rohe in Barcelona. The glass panels that make up the walls of most of this house open up completely to allow the sea views and sounds right into the lounge and dining room.

Redesigning The Martini Glass

Ever since those iconic words were spoken by Ian Fleming’s James Bond, “shaken, not stirred”, the Martini has been a symbol of beauty, style and exclusivity. However Bombay Sapphire, the gin which inspired the Martini, holds a competition every year to redesign the Martini glass. I think 2006′s winners, Tomek Rygalik and Jorre van Ast, were the most innovative.

Their inverted Martini glass shows that they understood the relationship between the bowl, the stem and the base, and by understanding the different elements of the glass, they were able to completely break the rules. They placed the stem above the bowl, which created a completely new way of drinking Martinis. [Read more...]

One Glass, Four Drinks & A Smart Idea

One glas, four ways

Few countries have elevated food and drink to the almost religious experience like the Italians and the French, but the French have come up with a multi-tasking glass that can go from sedate water to celebration’s champagne in a few smooth moves. Utopik Design Lab have created one glass for four drinks. With the addition or removal of a base, the glass can transform between water, Cognac, wine and Champagne, quickly and easily.

Hottest New Material – Glass Roof Tiles

The glass tile in use on a house.

During the NordBygg fair in 2010, an innovative product was introduced to the solar energy industry. Something so simple, yet it worked so efficiently, that the developing company, SolTech Energy, won the Gold Award for Hottest New Material. What sets these roof tiles apart from anything their competitors had come up with, is that they are made from ordinary glass and they weigh about the same as their clay counterparts usually used.

Transparent Accessories Made From Glass

Ying Gao and glass artist Michèle Lapointe were fascinated by the idea of carrying a ten gram shirt in a ten kilogram bag. The glass handbag has a rounded contour in which the shirt is placed. Ying Gao is based in Montreal and is the only fashion designer included by the British magazine Wallpaper in its Canadian Top 40.

Here is something guaranteed to brighten up your day. Hanging vases, who can resist hanging vases? Especially ones with sweet little buds sitting in a little water. Well if you need some of these in your life, you can get them from Crate & Barrel. They are hand blown beaker glass, which means as well as being unique, each is made from ultra thin glass that have to be hand washed. They are ideal for holding single buds and hanging in front of a window so that the light catches the water.

Practical and Beautiful

Hey everyone! I’ve searched like a good little co-blogger for something to interest the inquiring minds of my captive audience. And have I got a treat for you. I know how you love beautiful, practical things, just like me!

Growing up on a farm, our mom always made home made yogurt, would you like to make your own? If your answer is “Heck yeah!” then this bowl is for you. As it’s made from Teak and glass, I suppose, these bowls could be used for anything, but the thought of lovely, cold yogurt and fresh strawberries is just too good to resist.
