This thoroughly modern white kitchen is saved from being too stark by the wooden breakfast nook. Italian company Elmar, has designed a beautifully slimmed down kitchen, perfect for small spaces, equipped with a high wood nook that overlaps the work surface.

Karoto Carrot Peeler and Sharpener

Avichai Tadmor has developed a carrot peeler and sharpener that will change the way you serve carrots. The peeler allows you to produce long thin ribbons and round curls of carrots, zucchini, cucumbers and other vegetables to decorate your dishes.

The Blitz Laser Knife

The Blitz Laser Knife was developed to further technology in the kitchen with lasers. The conceptual idea was entered into the John Dyson Awards from Russia. Double Duty Lampshade

I love anything that can serve double duty, like a table that folds into a partition, or a cell phone cover with space for your cards and ID. This lampshade from Czech designer Krystyna Pojerova certainly does that. It was developed with the modern desire to grow herbs in the kitchen. The lack of space meant that the herbs would have to be hung from the ceiling. Such an innovative design surely deserves to be put into production.

The recipe, through The TomKat Studio, is easy to follow, with the results looking like they are worth the extra bit of effort.

Glide Toaster

I love toast. Yes you heard me correctly & I’ll say it again, I love toast. There is nothing better than a simple piece of toast. The beauty of toast is that you can have it just as it is, with hot melted butter or depending on how you’re feeling your toast can be as elaborate as you want. So doesn’t it stand to reason that your toaster should be as wonderful as the toast it makes?

I came across a toaster that looked, excuse my childish discription, well really cool. And the name is ever cooler. It’s called a Glide Toaster, & the name should give you a clue on how it works.

What’s Cooking in the Kitchen at No 10 Downing Street?

With the recent trip of US president, Barack Obama & Michelle Obama, to Ireland & the UK there have been many photo opportunities & countless meetings with various high profile people.

However the photo’s that caught me eye were ones that probably didn’t make it high on many political analysts or government agency lists. The two photos in question were of the kitchen at No 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the Prime Minister of the UK.

OK I know its not something that would interest many people, but I found it interesting. The first photo was taken in 1989 when Baroness Margaret Thatcher was in residence, we see her all dressed up making tea in the kitchen featuring basic fittings, stained walls and basic standard run-of-the-mill accessories. We even see her wash rag draped over the dish rack, I mean wow talk about normal.
