Official Olympic Song

Have you heard the official Olympic song? It’s by British alternative rock band Muse and it’s nothing like their previous work. I love Muse, but I think I will have to let the song grow on me and with how many times it will probably be played during the Olympics, I think it just might.

Van Halen And The Brown M And M Saga

Everybody has heard about Van Halen and their aversion to brown M & Ms, but does anyone know the real story of why they supposedly hate brown M & Ms. The band was big in the eighties, really big, playing and selling out great halls and concert venues, but they had a weird clause in their contract with promoters, no M & Ms in the dressing rooms or backstage, anywhere.

David Lee Roth tells us the complete story behind why they had this bizarre clause in their contracts and how he let the media take a rumour to take on a life of its own. [Read more...]

Modern Music Boxes

I used to have a music box as a child, and every time I hear the tune it used to play, I still get transported back to playing it in my bedroom and watching the ballerina twirl round and round. Well music boxes have changed a little, now there are apples with worms and snowmen and flowers that play a variety of tunes to fit into the most modern of nurseries.

Lana Del Rey’s New Album

The second album is out today for singer Lana Del Rey and aptly named Born To Die. It only seems like yesterday that she arrived on the music scene, actually I think it was, she has come from nowhere to being everywhere.

As for the new album, it’s getting mixed reviews, opinions are divided. The music on the album comes across as somewhat gloomy but her distinctive voice is intriguingly hypnotically sad but I mean this as a positive and not a negative observation.

To decide for yourself, you can download the new album from iTunes or visit Lana’s website for more information.

Incredibox Beat Box Machine

I am a child of the eighties, so I remember, vaguely, watching guys and girls Beat Boxing on street corners. The thought of making music with my mouth, appealed to me as an incredibly efficient way of making music. I mean you didn’t have giant bulky instruments to carry around, it made sense to me even as a child.  I can’t Beat Box to save my life, so when real artists come a long and give little old me the chance to Beat Box, I’m going to grab it.

The way Incredibox works is, you select different sound icons and drag them over the beat boxers, as you go you earn bonus icons to customise your Beat Boxing boys’ harmony.

Steve Jobs: 1955 – 2011

CC Apple Macworld

At the age of fifty six, and forty years of innovation, Steve Jobs has passed away, peacefully surrounded by family. The announcement was made on Wednesday the 5th October 2011 by Apple, from which Jobs resigned in August. During his tenure at the head of Apple Inc., he managed to build a company able to produce technology before the customers (more like fans?) realized they wanted it. Steve Jobs and Apple Inc. have managed to change the mobile phone, music, television and laptop industries almost single handed. I wonder, as I’m sure many did after his resignation, whether this is the end of the Apple era.

Music in a Bottle

ginie4

In response to humans increasing distance from each other due to technology, designer Kim Jiyoun has designed an MP3 player that responds to your moods. Without requiring docking or syncing, the Genie plays music relative to your mood.

Whatever you have in your playlist, the Genie will choose music specific to whatever you feel. The Genie is designed to fit into your home like a piece of sculpture, the conical shape helps to radiate the sound and eliminates the need for traditional speaker grills.
