Organic Wood Stain

If you have ever stained floors or a piece of furniture and looked at the label, you will have seen the long list of horrible chemicals they put into stains to give them their colour and staying power. The Money Pit has a list of household items that you probably already have in your cupboard that can be used instead of the chemical-laden shop bought stains. The colours can be just as vibrant as stains from your hardware, but they are easier on the environment and easier on your allergies.

You can find the complete list of stains, from vinegar and coffee, on The Money Pit website

Cob is an ancient mixture of sand, clay, and straw, mixed by foot, and then applied by hand to form massive walls, used by various indigenous people to construct houses, and various other buildings before cement was used so widely. On his blog, and in his book, he details his experiences during his “Year of Mud” when he decided to go as completely off the grid as possible. Back to his pizza oven below

Encourage moss to grow in your bathroom

Moss and mould are usually discouraged from growing in bathrooms, however, bathrooms are usually the best places for them. Damp, warm, and usually dark. However, there is the theory that walking on grass is good for the circulation. So how do you combine the two? By getting a moss bath mat, that’s how: They say walking on fresh grass increases your blood circulation; I can’t vouch for that! Anyways, it is a reason to get going to the nearest park, remove your expensive Jimmy Choo’s and prance around.
