Gossamer Silk Vortices

For over 20 years Japanese artist Akiko Ikeuchi has been creating room sized vortices from silk thread. Ikeuchi first creates a frame of cotton thread before knotting silk threads  to create a mesh that could take up to a month to complete.

The installations strike a fine balance between solidity and complete weightlessness and were on display at the Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, but they can also be seen on Design Boom
