Home-Made Copper Wind Chimes

Chica & Jo have a wonderfully easy to follow tutorial on how to make your own home-made copper wind chimes. Depending on what you have available, you can either use copper pipes from the hardware stores, used pipes or mismatched silver cutlery from a second hand store.

If you are using copper pipes, make sure to get your hardware store to cut the pipe before you bring it home.

* The full tutorial can be found on Chica & Jo and is easy enough to adjust for older kids on snow days

Make Your Own Amigurumi

Amigurumi is the Japanese of using crochet to make stuffed animals and shapes. Some examples are so tiny, and use embroidery floss and needle thin crochet hooks. Others can be over sized toys that rival anything won at a carnival.

This art has spread the world over and the word Amigurumi is now used to describe any sort of handmade crocheted soft toy.

*If you have ever wanted to try making your own Amigurumi toys, Miss Turtle has a great, simple to follow tutorial that will give you a base to start your Amigurumi adventures from

How To Get Photographs On To Canvas

For a couple of months I have seen Pins promising to tell me how to get enlarged photographs on to canvas. So far I haven’t found any methods I really liked, but this one from Mom Spotted looks so simple.

*The full method can be found on Mom Spotted, where Jennifer and her husband have step by step pictures as well

Concrete Garden Stepping Stones

For those of us with room enough to have an actual garden, finding pretty stepping stones can be a real pain. Most concrete stepping stones in garden centres are mass produced, moulded copies of every other stepping stone available. No real personality in any of them.

But if you have the soul of an artist, you probably crave individuality, so why not make your own stepping stones. All it requires is a little time, concrete and some imagination.

Follow this tutorial from the Dig Deeper Newsletter and make your own pretty stepping stones

Alternative Mirror Decor

We have all see the Popsicle stick mirrors, even mirrors encircled by plastic spoons! Basically if you could hot glue it to a frame, it can go around your mirror.

But Gina’s version of a decorated mirror just screams shabby chic, which is convenient because her blog is called The Shabby Creek Cottage.

A full tutorial on how to get your rope to stay around your mirror is available on the Shabby Creek Cottage blog

Handmade Clock How To

The 36th Avenue blog has a list of 25 handmade gifts that you can make for under $5, can you believe it, but what caught my eye was this clock that you could make with a paper plate. It would make a great summer time vacation activity with the kids over summer, and you can totally personalise it by using any of the brightly patterned paper plates on the market at the moment.

The original tutorial is from Momtastic and was included in 36th Avenues list

Homemade Picnic Blanket

With Summer approaching really fast, thoughts turn to alfresco dining, and picnics are my favourite way of dining outside. So why not make your own picnic blanket? It’s simple when you follow the tutorial from Darby from Fly Through Our Window

Chicken Wire Bell Ornaments

Originally this was supposed to be a Christmas ornament, but it can really be adapted to any shape you wish for. From sleigh bells to tulips, even bunnies and Easter eggs. Made with chicken wire, jingle bells and patience, these bell ornaments are sure to be popular with the kids, especially as they can be hung on door knobs and in windows so that they jingle when touched either by human hands or by the wind. Lately I have been searching for an excuse to try my hand at macrame, this could be the project I am looking for. It is a simple take on traditional macrame, but it is a bracelet.
